Fitness Support
Fitness support is available for students, staff and members of the public. Facilities within the University Sports Centre include a Fitness Suite and a High Performance Weights Room.
The Fitness Suite is a members club and, as such, is available to students, staff and members of the general public. Access to the High Performance Weights Room is restricted to athletes and student clubs within the Team Durham Performance programme.
The Durham University Sport fitness support team consists of two full time Senior Strength and Conditioning Coaches and three junior coaches. Strength and Conditioning programmes are personalised to the individual athlete’s requirements and support is on hand seven days a week.
Every Club within the the Team Durham Student Performance programme (28 clubs in total) access Strength and Conditioning support on a weekly basis. Many clubs and athletes also take advantage of the nutritional, life management and sports psychology support that is readily on hand, whilst over 120 of our elite athletes are mentored on an annual basis by senior staff within the University, the majority of which are from departments outside of 'sport'. This ensures that we are always in touch with our athletes and have in depth knowledge of personal challenges that they are facing. Staff mentors from outside of the Sports Department ensure that our student athletes are always presented with a balanced and well rounded perspective.
Durham University Sport is also a Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme hubsite, and currently has over 20 student athletes involved in the TASS programme.
