Rugby Club help to raise funds for Heroes

(4 November 2008)

On Monday, Durham University Rugby Club presented former Durham student and England and British Lions rugby player Will Greenwood with a cheque for £1000 to go towards the Help for Heroes charity that he represents.

Greenwood was in town to speak at a Durham Sporting Forum dinner on the topic of University sport being the breeding ground for International sport. At the event, Club President Edward Wood and Club Captain James Dennis presented Will with the cheque which will go towards helping those who have been injured in Britain's current conflicts. The money will come in part from the total raised at the Charity Challenge Rugby Match which takes place at Durham City Rugby Club on Wednesday 12th November at 6:45pm. The Club hopes to attract a crowd in excess of 4,500, and all proceeds go to charitable causes, in particular Sport in Action Zambia. Tickets for the event will be available on the night.
