Women's Tennis make Final Four
(27 February 2010)
Women's Tennis moved into the Semi Finals of the National Championship for the second time in three years with a convincing 8-2 victory over Bournemouth 1s.
The Last 16 tie had seen the Palatinates destroy Bath University 10-0 but this was expected to be a much tighter encounter. However the Palatinates started well and went 1-0 up very quickly with Lucy Scott and Sally Pearson winning their doubles with something to spare.
Things continued to progress well with Anna Oswald winning in straight sets at number 4. However it was clear that Durham were not going to have everything their own way with Georgie Wire having to battle for every point at number three. However before Wire's match could have any bearing on proceedings Lucy Scott stormed to victory at number one, calming nerves and leaving number 2 Sally Pearson to cement the victory with another straight sets victory. Despite having match points Wire eventually lost her singles at number 3 but got some revenge when she teamed up with Oswald to win the second doubles and ensure an 8-2 victory for the Palatinates.
Next up for Durham is a Semi Final against Premier League South Champions, London Met.
