Durham University enjoys an elite squad of around 30 players, male and female, who are selected at trials held early in the Michaelmas term.

Within the squad we have two men’s and two women’s teams who play against other universities in the BUSA leagues on Wednesday afternoons. Our women's 1st team play in the Northern Premiership, our new women's 2nd team play in the Northern Division 3B, our men's 1st team in the Northern Division 2B, and our men's 2nd team in the Northern Division 3B.

We are currently being coached by Peter Higman, one of the top six senior coaches in the country, and a European Veterans champion.

At least once a year members of the squad attend international student tournaments, in recent years we have travelled to Russia, Norway, Holland, France, and Newcastle. These tournaments have a 4-stage ability profile allowing all players to get highly competitive games; there are also huge parties interspersed, and the opportunity to enjoy the area around where you stay.
