About: The cycling club welcomes riders of all disciplines and abilities. It is split into two main categories: cross country mountain biking and road cycling. The 2009-10 season will, for the first time, see cycling specific coaching available for those who want improve their performance and get in to road and mountain bike racing. There is also a strong social side to the club embodied by the socials and group rides and trips.

Mountain Biking: The mountain bikers enjoy riding local trails around the Durham countryside along with trips to other trail centres around the country, e.g. Dalby Forest, The 7 Stanes in Scotland. For those who are inclined, there will be the opportunity to race in events ranging from the university BUCS races to national events, such as the Mountain Mayhem.

Road Cycling: For those who don't like getting muddy and bloody there is the road cycling side of the club. Rides typically take place on the beautiful country roads surrounding Durham, with longer rides often up into the Pennines. Similarly to the mountain bikers, DUCC's road cyclists also have the opportunity to race at all levels.

Coaching and ‘strength and conditioning’: Committing to involvement in the coaching and training set-up will provide you with a structured training program, better access to equipment and facilities, and the Team Durham physio. You do not have to be involved in this to attend normal club rides.

Club cross country and road rides are held on Wednesdays, Saturdays and often on Sundays. Many other rides, locally and further afield, are organized off the back of these.

The cycling club is currently coming off one of its most successful seasons to date; winning various medals at BUSA events. This has led to Team Durham providing the aforementioned coaching set-up and offering the club places on its strength and conditioning courses. Hopefully, we will build on this success in the coming season!
