Lacrosse At Durham
We have an emphais on both elite performance and player development. As the only university in Britain to run three men's and three women's teams in British University Sport competitions, we are building a programme that caters for all abilities from novices to international athletes from around the world.
All of our students have an opportunity to train and compete up to five days per week, with coaching provided to all teams. We have a strong relationship with the England Lacrosse Association and have worked together to help develop some of the best student lacrosse players in Britain over recent years.
We have placed a degree of emphasis on overseas postgraduate recruitment to ensure that our programme has developed at pace. Our postgraduate scholars provide something different to the programme and bring the necessary experience, as both players and coaches, to allow our British students to flourish. We have a firm belief that the best way to develop as a player is to train daily with the strongest possible squad.
Our men now have a prestigious fixture list outside of university competition which include matches against national squads from around Europe. Our objective is to develop a similar programme for the women over the coming eighteen months.
Our men are the current national university champions having won the title for a third year in a row in March. Our women won the national championship in 2011 and won the Northern Premier League in 2012.
