PricewaterhouseCoopers supports Durham University Tennis Club

One of the best options in Britain for academic tennis players

Women's Tennis - BUCS National Champions 2011 & Premier League North Winners 2011 & 2012

Men's Tennis - Northern 1a Champions & Championship Semi-Finalists 2011

Durham University has a long standing tradition of excellence in tennis. The women’s first team are regularly ranked within the top six in British University sport, whilst the men’s first team are consistently ranked within the top twelve sides. The women's first team finished first in the Northern Premier last year and won the Championship knockout. The men's first team won promotion to the Northern Premiership and reached the semi-finals of the Championship knockout. In April 2011 Iva Saric won the BUCS National Singles title and Richard Wire reached the men's final. Saric was also a doubles finalist with Lucy Scott.

With the objective of achieving further success, the club have developed a full time coaching structure to oversee the management of the University’s eight sides and the development and recruitment of athletes for the 2011/12 academic year and beyond.

There is now an opportunity for players to train indoors and receive coaching seven days a week, whilst the social side of the club remains as vibrant as ever with students often developing life long friendships.

The club now has four male sides and four female sides that compete on a weekly basis throughout the British University season. This allows the club to cater for a range of abilities from one on one coaching for some of the best student tennis players in Britain to providing regular structured training sessions for students that simply enjoy the game. The club also has two teams entered into the North East league and compete at the weekend.
