Tess Howard scores 3 goals in 2 games for GB Hockey

(10 June 2019)

A brace from Tess Howard ensured that Great Britain started off on the front foot on Friday night as GB took on Germany in the FIH Pro League.

Howard had found the back of the net inside the first 10 minutes, with a neat volley beating the German keeper. This would be the first goal scored at home for Tess of her international career, however it wouldn’t be the last as only 6 minutes later she netted again, this time squeezing the ball near post to beat the keeper.

With more chances at either end, Germany converted just before half time, taking scores 2-1 as the players reset for a big second half.

There was some impressive play in the second for GB but unfortunately it wasn’t enough as the final score fell in Germany’s favour 4-3.

Sunday came around quickly and saw GB line up, again in front of a home crowd, this time against a strong Australian opposition.

The Australians put the pressure on the home team which meant they were 3-0 up at half time. However a spirited second half saw GB claw some possession back, scoring a goal in the third quarter before Tess converted again in the fourth, throwing herself forward to put the ball in the back of the net after an initial corner shot was saved.

Sadly, the final score ended 4-2 and although not the result the girls were after, Tess can be proud of her contribution and we're sure it won’t be the last we hear of Tess Howard scoring for GB. The girls will face the Netherlands on 15th June at 4pm in the next leg of the FIH Pro League and we can’t wait to see what Tess and the rest of the GB girls have in store!
