PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS: If you are joining the university for the 2016/17 academic year and are keen to represent the university in football, we welcome new students to our pre-season training before the academic term starts. If you are keen to join us, please e-mail our Club Captain, Mike Slater, at the e-mail address above with a football CV. Pre-season is likely to be two/three weeks before fresher’s week. If you are unable to attend pre-season training, we hold fresher trials at the start of term so there are other opportunities to be part of the squad.
DUAFC is the university football club, drawing the best players from across all the colleges together. The club has two football teams and three futsal teams that compete in BUCS league and cup competitions.
The 1st XI have just completed their third season in the BUCS Premier North, winning the league in emphatic style but losing in the BUCS semi-finals. The 2nd XI competed in Northern 3B this season. The squads train together twice a week on floodlit 3G pitches, whilst receiving extensive S&C support and physiotherapy provision. We enjoy a fantastic club spirit, which is demonstrated on our weekly socials after our games on a Wednesday.
The level of football within the club is demonstrated by the fact that two players in the past two seasons have left to achieve professional contracts. Jonny Giles, who graduated at the end of the 2014/15 season is now signed at Oxford United and last season’s 1st XI goalkeeper, Ben Dudzinski, has signed professional terms with Hartlepool United for the 2016/17 season.
The club is very fortunate to receive high calibre coaching from Chris Moore and Chris Foreman. Chris Moore is starting his fourth season in charge of the 1st XI, whilst Chris Foreman is starting his third season in charge of the 2nd XI. Both our coaches have vast management and playing experience in the northern leagues, with many links to local clubs.
We also have three futsal teams, which play on Sundays. Our 1st V finished third in their BUCS Premier Division last season, having previously won the BUCS Trophy in their debut season. Our 2nd team finished third in Northern 1B and our 3rd team finished fifth in Northern 2B. The futsal teams are largely selected from members of the football club, but if you would like to be exclusively involved in futsal then please get in touch.
Exciting times lie ahead for the club as we try to maintain our unprecedented success of recent years, to underline our establishment as one of the top sports clubs at Durham University.
