The home of British University Fencing

Durham University Fencing Club has a long standing reputation for being one of the leading programmes in British University Sport. Durham boasts one of the only purpose built fencing salles in the country, with four permanent metal pistes, four training pistes and one wheelchair fencing frame.

In addition to phenomenal facilities Durham also has a top class training programme. Club sessions are run three times a week, with team fencers having the opportunity to have one-on-one lessons with world class coach Lazlo Jakab. In addition to fencing training, team fencers can also take part in Strength and Conditioning sessions twice a week, run by the University’s performance sport programme.

The strength of our programme is reflected in the talent we have attracted. The club has consistently attracted international standard fencers from both weapons and sexes. The club currently has athletes who have represented their nation at the international level, World and European Championships, Commonwealth and Pan American games. This high level of international achievement is reflected in our university based performance. The club’s top teams are regular winners of the university league and fixtures in the finals of the University cup competition.

The Club caters for all abilities, from beginners to world class athletes. Our thriving beginners programme offers a relaxed introduction to the sport, while our four men’s teams and three women’s teams allows all who want to compete the opportunity to do so.
