Durham University has a long standing tradition of excellence in tennis. Both the women’s and men's first team are regularly ranked within the top two teams in British University tennis and overall Durham University Tennis Club is the number one university tennis club in the UK. Last season, both the men's and women's first teams won the National Leagues and reached the Championship finals.

With the objective of achieving further success, the club have developed a full time coaching structure to oversee the management of the University’s ten sides and the development and recruitment of athletes for the 2016/17 academic year and beyond.

There is now an opportunity for players to train indoors and receive coaching seven days a week, whilst the social side of the club remains as vibrant as ever with students often developing lifelong friendships.

The club now has six male sides and five female sides that compete on a weekly basis throughout the British University season. This allows the club to cater for a range of abilities from one on one coaching for some of the best student tennis players in Britain to providing regular structured training sessions for students that simply enjoy the game. The programme also provides four Strength & Conditioning sessions across the week, along with nutrition workshops and sports psychology.

There is the opportunity to develop skills off court as well through the wider coaching programme, where students can volunteer, coach and undertake their coaching qualifications. The development programme includes junior sessions, staff sessions and our student recreational development squad to cater for players ranging from beginners to players just beneath university team level.
