Women’s Rugby BUCS Championship Final

(11 April 2019)

Durham University Women’s Rugby 1st XV came head to head yesterday with reigning Champions Exeter University in a battle to claim the BUCS National Championship title.

Both teams had gone undefeated all year winning their respective North and South Premier Leagues and it was only yesterday’s final, played at Twickenham Stadium, that separated them.

The game was well contested and could have gone either way, with stand out play from both sides. However, a penalty for Exeter in the last minute of the game meant the score line finished DUR 26 – EXE 30. A valiant effort from all of our DUWRFC athletes and coaching staff and the girls should hold their heads up high as they put on an excellent display from start to finish.

Although they did not lift the trophy yesterday, what they have done in the BUCS league this year is ground breaking. What a great season it has been for DUWRFC, we extend a huge congratulations to everyone involved in what has been the most successful one in the clubs 36 year history showing that our rugby programme is only going from strength to strength.
