Programme Information

The Junior Performance Camp was introduced in 2007 as a residential course aimed at junior scullers of 14 -18 years. This year due to popular demand, we are splitting the group by age across two weeks and offering a camp for ages 13-16, followed by a week specifically for the 16+ age range.

The majority of the camp will be technical sculling sessions on the water in 1x's and will concentrate on technical and video analysis and feedback from our world class coaches, including strength and conditioning and training advice. In addition, several sessions during the week are devoted to land training, including: ergo technique, strength and conditioning, core strength, goal setting and flexibility.

There will be opportunities for athletes interested in joining Durham University to look around the colleges and campuses as well as talks about admissions and the departments. The week will also include social activities such as an evening BBQ cruise, ten pin bowling and dinner trip.

The first week of our performance camp will be based on the River Wear at the state of the art indoor rowing facility at Maiden Castle. Our second week for ages 16+ will be based mainly on the River Tyne, with one day spent at Maiden Castle for land training as outlined above.

Athletes attending the Performance Camps are encouraged to bring their own equipment, although there are a number of sculling boats and blades which can be hired and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact us after booking a place to enquire about boat hire.

Residential Opportunity

Residential athletes will be accommodated in Durham Choristers School. Set in its own grounds, adjacent to Durham Cathedral in the very heart of the city, it provides the perfect base to explore Durham. The buildings are very much a ‘house’ area, with newly refurbished dormitories and bathrooms. Participants can also enjoy the use of two common rooms, sports facilities and yard, dining room and IT suite. The residential option also includes a Durham City history and ghost tour, movie night and all meals.
