Ski and Snowboard

President: Gus Cooney - fergus.cooney@durham.ac.uk

The Ski and Snowboard Club (DUSSC) has over 600 members and is the largest in Durham. It does not matter how good or bad you are; the club is open to all standards, from complete beginners, right up to front flipping, cliff hucking Norwegian instructors!

Our highlights of the year are our ski trips. We organize two trips a year, the first in conjunction with Palatinalps during the Christmas and BUSC Main Event in the Easter vacations. These trips provide the perfect opportunity to meet new people, learn to ski or board, show off how talented you are and, of course, participate in a little après-ski in the many bars!

We run weekly training sessions on our nearest dry ski slope in Sunderland and as many times as possible we take the trip to the indoor ski slope in Castleford for any competitors who want to train or for those who want to brush up on their skills and can’t wait to get back on the slopes. For the more competitive amongst you, we have strong men's and ladies race teams (both ski and snowboard) and a new but very strong freestyle team. We compete in the Kings Northern League and at the National University Championships in Edinburgh, which is always a good weekend.

Our socials are an incredible way to get to meet new people and we offer membership to those who do not want to compete but just love a good bit of après. We have even been known to organise an impromptu trip to Scotland to find what little snow may be around for us to shred.
