Student Community Action (SCA)
SCA is a student-led, community-focused organisation. We’re here to respond to the needs of the local community, and to offer unique volunteer opportunities to Durham students. With a 1000 students volunteers there is a whole host of things to get involved in whether you want to work with children, adults or animals! SCA runs residential trips with children referred through social services, does dog walking for local residents, computer classes for the elderly, works with local schools, prisons and care homes and much more. We also run projects supporting other students within our own community these promote mental wellbeing and keeping safe. There are around 50 different projects across both campuses which are open to all students and more details about each of them can be found on our website.
Team Durham Community
Team Durham Community bring the sport into volunteering! To get involved you don’t necessarily need to be good at sport just willing to get involved and get the local community more active. Volunteer in schools delivering sports classes, work with adults in rehabilitation, with learning disabilities or with mobility issues. The programme covers all ages and abilities so if you are a trained tennis coach or just want go on a walk there is something for everyone.
‘All night, all term, all ears’, Nightline is a confidential, non-advisory, non-judgmental, non-directive listening service and relies on students to support other students. A dedicated training programme is in place for anyone who volunteers so you will be supported every step of the way. To get involved look out for the training sessions ran in October and sign up.
